Chiropractic Care Is Long Term Care
Chiropractic Care is Long-Term Care
Nothing quite like a joke to kick-off a blog post, and especially if (spoiler alert) it comes back later to make a point.
Question: How many chiropractors does it take to change a lightbulb?
Answer: Just one! But it’ll take him 40 visits to do it.
I remember giving a talk one day, and a gentleman in the front row raised his hand and said, “Sir, I’m hesitant to start chiropractic care because I’ve been told that once I start, I’ll have to go for the rest of my life.”
He was probably between 50 and 60 years old. I was guessing he was on at least one medication. So, I asked him, “Sir, are you on any medications?”
He said, yes, of course. So, I asked, “How long do you plan to be on those medications?”
The room got quiet. His eyes got big and round like saucers. He gave a little smirk in defeat and said, “Probably the rest of my life.”
Irwin M. Fletcher, You Choose!
Fans of Chevy Chase will remember that line from the comedy classic, Fletch. But, like the joke that came before, it serves a point.
You have a choice!
One thing the Human Genome Project taught us is that our genes are much less important than once presumed as a predeterminate of future health. Which means environment plays a greater role …. Which means ….
You have a choice!
You can choose to do things that will improve your health. And you can choose to do those things on a regular basis. Or you can choose to ignore the things that will improve your life and take, what may be in the moment, the easier way.
Good health takes work. It’s hard to work up the motivation to exercise. It’s hard to resist the crunchy goodness of a Snickers. It’s hard to say no to a magical pill that can solve all woes.
Did you know: 75 percent of the time a medication is prescribed, it’s to treat side effects from another medication. (And to cause more, requiring more meds.)
Now that you know you have a choice. (You always knew, didn’t you?) I have one question for you:
What are you going to choose?
But first … why is that joke in the intro not told about gyms? Or yoga studios? Or health food stores?
Think about it. The knock on chiropractic care is the regularity of it?
Do we feel that way about brushing our teeth? Showering? (Thankfully not and insert French joke here.)
When we join a gym, do we view that as a regular practice (in theory, of course), or a one or two-time event? After you eat a few healthy meals, do you pat yourself on the back, and declare that you’re now finished with eating healthy.
(And how come no one questions the dentists? Beginning to feel a bit arbitrary, no?)
It just comes down to a shift in mindset about chiropractic care. And then a decision only you can make. Do you choose great health, the same way you choose to not stink and not lose your teeth, or do you choose a future filled with assisted living, and constant care … a total loss of freedom.
Chiropractic care has proven time after time to have long-term benefits throughout your whole body. Want to increase your mobility? Or boost your immune system function by 200%? Or decrease your risk for numerous chronic diseases? This isn’t science fiction! But it is science.
Choose great health. Choose chiropractic care. And stop counting your visits.
Instead, make it a normal part of your healthy routine.
